Why Choose a Lion Cut?
Occasionally, a cats coat can get so badly matted that the only solution is to completely shave off the damaged hair. In some cases, cats are much happier when their coats are shaved off. Lion cuts have become extremely popular with our clients in recent years. Cats with either long or short hair can get a lion cut.
How long will your cats lion cut last?
For the average short hair cat, it will take about 3 months for the hair to grow back to the original length. For long haired cats, it takes a little longer, usually around 4 to 6 months. If the owner chooses, the cut can be done more often, as long as the skin is healthy and its temperament is suitable.
Considerations for first time lion Cuts
You should be prepared for the drastic appearance change for both you and your cat when you first get a lion cut. Almost all cats will quickly, usually within 2 days, get used to their new look and in some cases will even develop a better temperament because of it.
In a few cases, a cats coat may grow back in sparsely after being shaved, the guard hairs grow back normally but the undercoat can grow back at a much slower rate. This can happen at any time and may never happen again to the same cat once the rough coat is shaved back down and the growth process is restarted. The reason for this is not known. If this repeatedly happens to your cat, there may be some underlying health problems and you should bring your cat to see your veterinarian.
